The major activities of the project include mobilisation of Gram/Ward Sabha – the local level democratic forum of the citizen to come together and ensure their participation in planning, implementation and monitoring of local level projects, building the capacity of the elected representatives and officials of local governments to discharge their duties effectively, conducting action research and using it for policy advocacy, empowering women and women groups and dissemination of information.  Sahayi also has been providing facilitation and consultancy support to various stakeholder groups for the effective implementation of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme and Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission.  Moreover, massive awareness campaign on Right to Information Act has also been organized by Sahayi.  Special efforts were made to organize consultative meeting with the elected representatives in coastal Panchayats in Malappuram, Kozhikode and Trichur districts to discuss about the formulation of a common plan of action for helping the fisher folk to solve their issues related to livelihood and protecting them from natural disasters.
