Support NGO | : | Founder and Chief Functionary of SAHAYI -Centre for Collective Learning and Action, a regional development support organisation established in 1990. It offers various support services to NGO sector in South India such as capacity building training, perspective building orientation, participatory research and evaluation, O.D facilitation, consultancy services, information sharing etc. and intensive support services for the Local Self Governance Institutions in Kerala since the enactment of related Constitutional Amendment Acts and the State Acts in 1994. The significant intervention relates to strengthening of local self governance institutions include empowering the citizens and elected members; networking among various development actors, ensuring accessibility of information; using the outcome of participatory research for policy lobbying and organising interface between different actors. Promoting/developing grass root NGOs is another area of intervention. |
| iii. Network NGO | : | Founder and present working Chairperson of KAVAL (Kerala Voluntary Agencies League), a State level network organisation of the secular NGOs in the State of Kerala. It was established in 1990 with the aim of creating a common platform for the NGOs to share their experiences, undertaking advocacy role and addressing NGO related issues. The activities include mass education programmes, perspective building, public advocacy, fight against injustice, etc. Member of Working Committee (Governing Body) of Voluntary Action Network India (VANI) for three years. | | b. Academic | : | Worked as Programme Officer of the Adult and Continuing Education Department of the Cochin University of Science and Technology, Cochin, Kerala (1980-1984). Development of programme designs, course content, preparation of learning materials, organising contact classes, teaching, etc. were the major activities. | | ii. Research | : | Five years (1985-1989) intensive research Experience as Research Associate in Centre for Development Studies, Trivandrum, Kerala, one of the reputed research institutions in Asia. The task involved includes co-ordination/ facilitation of study design preparation of research tools, supervision of data generation process, compilation and analysis of data and preparation of reports. Major studies during the period include Cattle Holding in Kerala (sponsored by Swiss Development Corporation, Switzerland), Rural Household Savings and Investment (sponsored by govt. of India), Voluntary organisation and Rural Development (sponsored by NOVIB). Conducted a dozen of Research studies on subjects related to Local Self Governance Institutions (see the list in the publication part). | | iii. Participatory Monitoring and Evaluation | : | Five years (1995 onwards) experience as a participatory Monitor/ Evaluator of the NGO projects in Kerala. Functioned as Monitor/ Evaluator of CAPART - a semi-central government agency (India) providing development fund to NGOs and Rashtriya Mahila Kosh - An agency under the Ministry of Women and Child Development, India providing loan schemes to NGOs.
